Been on the flyers this week trying to get a bit of practice in before the start of the Winter League. Not managed to get a decent peg yet, but I'm catching a few fish so that's half the battle.
The matches went something like this...
Wednesday - Botany Bay:
A day off from work meant it was time to sample the delights that Botany Bay had to offer. There was quite a good turn-out, with plenty of angers wearing Tricast Rochdale jackets; it looks like they're taking this seriously...
I had a bit of a bad draw with my back to the cars, just at the start of the hedge next to the mill. With no features in front of me, it was always going to be a struggle and so it proved with two skimmers, two roach and a very small perch for 1lb 12oz.

Saturday - Ring O' Bells:
I used to like fishing at Ring O' Bells - until I kept drawing past the cottages, which is where I was again yesterday. Three pegs off the pipe-bridge meant another scratcher. Nobody along the length did much good although Mark Adams on the end of the houses did OK with 2lb 14oz. Gold, Silver & Bronze were at the other end of the houses with 9lb-odd winning the day. I had 38 fish for 1lb 10oz - all bar one on fluoro pinkie.
Sunday - Heaton's Bridge:
Another big turn-out with 70 pegs in the draw - taking the end of the match through to the piggery at Martin Lane. I drew another scratcher on the narrows between the 'S' bend and the pub, so that was my ambitions dashed for another match. As Pearl quite rightly pointed out as we got to our pegs "there's nowt to be won here..." I caught steadily for the first hour or so but once the rain stopped and the wind got up, the fishing was blighted by a cut full of leaves. I had the wind swirling from either side, so I had a lovely pile of sycamore leaves from 4m all the way across to the far bank.
Forty four fish for around 2lb saw me off back to the car without bothering the scalesman - more urgent matters were waiting at home, so I wasn't for hanging around.
