Major earth works in progress on the Three Pools...

I'm sure there are many people who have seen lots of activity on the Three Pools at Water Lane over the last week or so.  Within the last few days, a big pile of spoil has started to take shape on the bank and in front  of it lies the source of all the activity:
The Environment Agency are hard at it, making a safe, flat bank to fish from; a bit like the match length on the sluice but it appears to be better - there's certainly a lot more room.  From what I saw the other night, there's enough room for a dozen pegs on the bits they've already started on.  It's great to see the progress they're making and we're all looking forward to it being completed.  It'll offer the members another great place to fish and from very comfortable pegs - instead of the quite treacherous perches which were there previously.
Since these extraction works started, I'd had a nagging recollection  from when I was a kid that there was a car park at Water Lane and while I was having a mooch around I found it.  Where the top soil had been scraped back, it's revealed the kerbstones of the car park.  It had a whitewashed chain around it and bedding plants too - I'm not getting my hopes up that they'll be replaced though.

With all the works going into the Three Pools lately, including the replacement of fish lost last year to the pollution incident, it's going to be interesting to see how long the fishery takes to return to the excellent form it was showing at the beginning of last season.  It'd be interesting to see whether the Fell View pegs could be opened up again - they were some great pegs for roach in days gone by...
