It was another odd match for me really. I got pegged next to a boat with an alarm going off, so that had me in a simply cracking mood from the start. It got a little bit better when I had a big skimmer, first dob-in, but quickly slid back into long spells of irritation interspersed with brief interludes of boredom.
On the next peg, Captain Strap-On managed to keep finding the fish at long range despite the best efforts of the Burscough Motor Boat Club armada which came back from a weekend away (how much fun can you really have at Moss Bridge??).
I was in the same section as Porky, so all wasn't lost. At various stages of the match I could hear him grumbling away - mainly about a lump of wood he claimed was being sent into his peg to put the fish off. By the look of things, it did a great job. I'm not sure why Dave Marsh didn't fish the timber out and clonk Porky with it; I'd have been tempted if I'd been next to him...
Team honours on the day went to Sams, with Lostock Black runners-up and Lostock White having a good day in third. Individually, Steve Wilson took the spoils with a fine 6-7-0 - Dave Massey not far behind with 6-4-14 and The Adder in third with 6-3-10 off the car park in the village.
We're off to Saracen's Head next week - not Gorst Lane as was originally circulated. Draw at the Slipway - see you in the brekkie queue...
