The best session of the past two weeks (by far) was being had on the canal yesterday. The canal was free right the way across, the wind wasn't freezing us to death and the fish were biting - one a chuck.
We'd had several netters each and there was no sign of it stopping - until that bloody big blue thing hove-to; coming towards us from it's mooring at the Ship at Haskayne. It swept away all before it and the bloke on the rudder told us he'd be back in half an hour (turning round at Mere Lane basin).
From that moment on, we never had another bite. The boat came back soon afterwards and the fish didn't return. Any other boat, any other day and we'd have been on for a netful there; but that's fishing for you.
Happy New Year to one and all - including one particular reader from Washington in the USA, who has been perusing the pages with great interest over the last couple of days. I hope you're enjoying what yo've read so far.
