Three Pools -a-we-did-wented...

Yes sluice fans, the Three Pools was the venue fo choice for today's pleasure chuck and a fine old time was had.

I was on what is now possibly the most comfortable peg on the length and was very glad that the weather was overcast, if still a little warm. I had the normal choice of bait, but dispensed with the hemp as - well, I couldn't be bothered doing any and I'm too tight to buy it.

I setup two rigs and fished lazy at 8 & 11m - feeding the same on both. It was a fish a chuck virtually all day, apart from the occasions where I was putting new hooklengths on - three times I was cupping in feed and got smashed to bits in the margins at my feet. I've no idea what was doing it, but it served me right for being too idle to lift my top kit out.

There were plenty of Rudd in evidence, with 3 or 4 around 10-12oz. I had three donkey Roach around a pound each - all in successive put-ins. Also (on white maggot - almost unheard of to me) was a Tench around three and a half pounds. There were stacks & stacks of hybrids; all had pronounced bellies and the vast majority were 4-8oz - the place is a gem of a fishery. It wasn't as if I had to go searching for them either - I just kept switching from one line to the other and the fish were there waiting for me

Jockster came down for a mooch late on - I'd grown tired of waiting for a lull in the action and had run out of bread feed; I also wanted me tea... He turned up not long later, beaten to me by DH and a new member - it looks like my net of fish was a good introduction to the water as he was quite impressed. I was too - I can't remember the last time I had that many silvers out of the Three Pools. That was as close to a gallery as I'm ever likely to get and a good chat was had about places to fish, rigs to use, baits of choice, etc...

The consensus of opinion on the bank was that I'd peaked a day early - we'll see what happens on the 'morrow at Cabin Lane...
