Keep on catchin'...
Bigger turnout than last week and I made progress up the length by drawing peg 2 - I'll make it to peg 10 sometime at the end of September....
Before the start there were the odd cloud of pin-heads here & there, but nothing of any substance; as soon as the match started the bubbles stopped - quite bizarre.
Fished it the same as I did yesterday on the Three Pools - it worked, although the fish were smaller. They kept coming on either line, which I kept topped up all the way through. No sign of any Tench on the line I fed, but I managed to bag a skimmer around 10oz on a bunch of maggots.
The hot, bright weather soon started to change to overcast and the clouds that had been following the off-shore breeze were soon backing up behind us. By the last half hour of the match, the sky blackened and we were swamped by some of the heaviest rainfall I've seen for ages. Everything was soaked - even stuff I'd tucked into the spokes of my brolly...
At the weigh in it was clear from people coming down the bank that the fishing was still very patchy, and that Tench were figuring in the best weights. Graham Johnson won it with 4 Tench and a few bits, with Steve Wilson continuing his good start to the summer league in second place. I was quite surprised to discover that I was third with my bag of little silvers - which weighed 6lb 10oz - the result was a nice return for a good day's fishing; the second in a row. The weight might've been down on yesterday, but it was still good fun. Onwards and upwards - formal results to come tomorrow...
RESULT:
1 Graham Johnson 13lb 0oz
2 Steve Wilson 8lb 6oz
3 Mark Rimmer 6lb 10oz
Sections: Melanie Bates, John Atherton, Dave Wright.
