Rudd, Rudd - glorious Rudd...

Today's foray was up to Sluice Farm for a bit of a pleasure chuck out of that 'orrible wind. Sadly, we couldn't really escape the heightening gusts which were present for most of the day, but it was still a good trip out.

The drains seem to be attracting a lot more anglers onto the bank than the same time 12 months ago, so it can't be fishing that bad - there were half a dozen cars at the bridge when I arrived and we were joined by a few more as the day went on. One of the late arrivers was former Association Chairman Mick Still, who stopped for a long chat later on.

The fishing wasn't spectacularly good as sessions go, but it dispelled another misconception that's been doing the rounds lately. The sluice up that end is packed with Rudd - in fact it was all I could do to try & catch something other than the damned things for over an hour. They were taking maggot, pinkie, caster and even sections of worm. Eventually I got through to some nicer roach (another apparently endangered species) and started picking up better stamp skimmers and hybrids. All told, it was a reasonably productive session - without ever really leading to a 'classic'. We spent much of it going through & making up rigs.

Tomorrow's another day - the first Sunday match of the season; the pegs are ready, lets hope the fish are there for the anglers.
