Before & After - the 'New First Plank'

With it being such a nice day, I thought I'd go for a wander down the match length after tea, just for a change of scene (owt is better than a construction site all day - arguing with sparks, chippies and screeders...)

While down there, my attention was drawn to something colourful sticking out of the grass on the top bank, from a long way off. When I got closer, it was this:
Now I'm no botanist, florist or any other sort of 'ist' to do with flowers, plants or anything similar, but I'm told it's some sort of orchid. We'll see...

A little while later, Derek and Jock rolled up in the BatMobile, and out came more tools. Pretty soon a plan was hatched to remove the gradient at the top end of the bridge, with a view to levelling it off and adding some gravel as a finishing touch. A short time later, the turf was gone and the soil was level ready for the completion. Elsewhere, Derek was adding the finishing touches to the shuttering for the final bit of concreting - once thats in place, the walkway will be down and the bridge will be ready for action.

I took a few pictures about a month ago of the bridge as it was and it's quite something when the current image is compared with what was there before:
