Is it a bridge - or is it a tank trap??

Rumours have been rife over the weekend that some major construction works were underway at the first plank.

I'd heard that a new bridge had been planned and wondered whether this was it - after tonight's brief foray to see what was occurring, I can vouch for the validity of those claims.

The workers in action:

It was all go down there when I arrived - welding, grinding, filing; a hive of activity. Given that the work has only been underway for two days, I think you'll agree that the progress to date is phenomenal. The work still to do includes the supports for the hand rails, the handrails themselves and a kick plate on either side of the actual walkway when that is laid.

The happy workers:

I was there during the shift-change, so if the night-shift work as fast as the lads on days, there should be a couple of coats of hammerite on the finished bridge when I go down there tomorrow...
