Wrighty bags-up at the Cunneries

I told him to brace himself...

With Wrighty being on holiday, we went over to Eccleston today for a chuck at the Cunneries.  There have been a couple of knock-ups on the canal lake this week and weights were pretty impressive so we were just having a knock to check it out.

Wrighty was struggling before we'd even started and it was all down to a spot of domestic duties yesterday.  Somehow, he managed to tip the dinner table over while it was polishing it, resulting in a broken toe!!  I'll put the choice of socks down to stress caused by the toe, but pink doesn't really go with classic adidas Predator trainers... On to the fishing, and after picking the pegs and setting up, I told Wrighty to get himself as comfy as he could, as once he'd started there wouldn't be much time to do owt but catch fish.  He laughed - but soon realised why I'd said it.  First chuck and he was cursing as an F1 slammed into the bait and he bounced it.  Soon after, a fish was hooked and from that point on it never stopped.  "This is the first time I've ever had to stop fishing for a fag break" came the cry, followed by "unbelievable", "amazing" and other such superlatives.

The bailiff came round and gave us a bit of background to the lake and an infection incident which occurred a few years ago and what they did to rectify the situation.  Basically, the lake was pumped out, the bed was scraped out and treated, then it was filled and stocked again.  All we know is, the place is fishing it's spuds off.  We couldn't use keepnets today but even with a rough guess, I'd say both of us had easily over 50lb while we were there, with Wrighty having a few more than me while I was experimenting with a few things.  Wrighty laughed at me when I told him I could get anything between 4 - 7 fish from the same piece of worm; he soon saw what I meant when I 'd caught three fish while he was trying to rebait with casters.  When they're really having it on there, you can't keep up using caster, maggot or pellet.

We were all fished-out after about five hours, so we went for a walk over to the new snake lake.  Peter the bailiff had already told us that there are fish in there, but the road down to it and the car park are still to be completed, along with the pegs.  There should be 57 pegs on it when it's done, and the lake lengths are 90m - half as long again as the canal lake which is 60m.  I dunno how we missed this place for so long, but it's certainly a place to go for a chuck if you fancy some easy fishing.
