After spying on the weather forecast that it was likely to be a nice day, I went down to the club lake for the first session of the year. I was expecting there to be plenty of youngsters already fishing when I arrived, but I was surprised to find the place empty.
After having a quick walk round, I eventually settled for one of the pegs in the bay and my choice was confirmed as a good one by Tommy when he came round later. Soon afterwards, Ian Allison arrived and setup on the next peg - it wasn't long before he was into the fish. He then told me of his recent exploits on that peg and said it was producing a lot better than the one I was sat on; and so it proved as the day went by. We both caught in fits & starts, but Ian had more fish in his peg and the results at chucking-back time proved it.
I had a few decent bream and a couple of tench - one of which was around 3lb. A few small skimmers also went back, but I was left rueing what might have been after losing a few decent fish early on.
Might be back tomorrow, then again I might go down to the canal.
