Sweep Match - Sollom

In all the excitement...

Of clearing a track through the ice to fish - we forgot to chuffin' well catch any.  At least, that's what it seemed like.  It was only a few mil thick, but it was a pain in the derriere to shift.  Last night was clear so it was a bit of a disappointment to wake up this morning to find frost on the car.

We went the same way as last week and were further frustrated by a pair of 'fly-tipped' narrowboats which had been dumped right across some of the best pegs.  What BW are doing about these casual moorers appears to be nothing - they look like being a bigger & bigger problem as we move towards the warmer months.

Onto the match itself and I drew the far end peg - although a long way short of where last week's winning weight came from, I was still optimistic of baggin a few.  At the all in, I used the improvised pole cup (alright, I forgot to put my pole cups back in my bag last night, so ended up duck-taping a pole end-cap to my cupping kit...) to feed down the track and on the short side.

I managed a small skimmer first chuck and had a big wait for a small roach on the second.  Steve Simpkin had drawn to my right for the second week running and was fearful of a blank for the second day running, but he banished that though with a billy on the maggot midway through the match.  I sneaked another little roach with around an hour to go, then another 15 minutes before the end.

Four fish for 0-4-8.  Dunno where that put me, but I don't think the winner had a big lot more.  Steve had three fish for 0-5-0 and Mark (I'm not French but my car is) Adams had worked his arse off for his 0-11-0, after a wicked bankwalker told him I'd had a big skimmer first chuck.  "Sacre 'kin bleu!!" he cried when he found out I'd only had four flirters.  Being a highly-strung foreigner, I left him to calm down.  It could be worse though, he could own a yank-tank; ah -he does & he threatened to turn up in it next week...  I'll have to have another fink...

We might be pegging a bit different next week and I'm hopeful of some warmer conditions.  Having said that, the outlook for the week is showing snow showers on Tuesday so i hope the weather picks up before the weekend.
