It was a weird one this week. It was sort-of two matches in one, as it was a pairs match in memory of Roy Davies, who died earlier this year. That bit of things resulted in Graham Johnson and Brian Woods being drawn together (or, more accurately - their pegs were) and they both had good nets of fish. Graham with 17lb odd from peg 12 in the wides and Brian was next to me in the second bank of reeds on peg 18, with a net of 14lb+.
For the rest of us it was a bit of a struggle with plenty of 1lb-odd & 2lb-odd weights. I never saw a bubble all day and despite feeding at 14.5m and close in, I fished worm for the bigger fish which never materialised. I caught in stits & farts for the first two hours and the remaining three were a waste of time.
I can honestly say I enjoyed washing the car & mowing the lawn more when I got home than the fishing today, but some matches are like that.
As a foot-note - WELL DONE!!!!!! to Dave Trafford from Mosella Lostock Tackle Box MG who took the individual honours at the Division 1 National Championships down in the midlands yesterday. I was waiting for the result to come through on the Angling Trust website 'til silly o'clock last night and when it did I did a couple of double-takes when I saw his name at the top of the list with a cracking net of fish - 12.340kg.
There can't be many times in an anglers career they see their name at the top of the pile with the likes of Alan Scotthorne 7 places below. Well done again Dave and to Tommy Fairhurst who was the next best finisher for Lostock and qualifies to represent them in the individual contest for the second year running. I've been asked to ask Rob (World Class) Porter how many rigs he got stuck in the trees yesterday - apparently it was 'plenty' ???
