Bonus peg, end peg, half a hundredweight of worms and Graham Johnson resulted in another Monday night win for the Preston plumber. He reckoned he'd have had even more fish but somehow he'd got it into his head that the all-out was at 9:00 so he stopped feeding at 8:45 (there's a brain in there somewhere - honest...). Tench and hybrids under his feet accounted for the bulk of his winning weight, which was almost twice that of second-placed angler, Steve Wilson who was on the other end peg.
Third was Hodgy on peg 6 who had a big skimmer, a couple of small skimmers and a last-gasp tench close-in for 6lb-odd. I think I was 4th, but with no decent fish making an appearance, I had to settle for 4lb 9oz of small stuff - all at 13m on the maggot. I caught steadily all night, but never really figured in the reckoning as the bigger fish were elsewhere on the night.
One thing is for certain, nobody really struggled for bites - which (after looking back at comparable reports from 12 months ago) is much more positive for the water as a whole. We know it fishes better as a pleasure venue, but the match weights are definitely on the up.
RESULT:
1 Graham Johnson 18lb 6oz
2 Steve Wilson 9lb 3oz
3 Dave Hodge 6lb 3oz
