The last couple of weeks have seen some frenetic goings-on down on the Sluice. The new bridge is up and finished, work on the steps has continued at both ends of the match length and there have been improvements made to the pegs (paving slabs re-seated, reed clearances, etc.)
It was a bit bleak on Wednesday night in all that rain, but I eventually got my act together and peg 13 now has a flat slab to put a box on, rather than what resembled a chute for a burial at sea... In fact, if I'd left the slab there any longer instead of moving it back up the bank when I did, it would probably now be a platform for winter levels only (under the water - sat in the mud).
I went back tonight to see how Cleggy was getting on with the strimming, and lo & behold there was a dirty great molehill almost on the slab - such is life; a readymade groundbait maker on the peg!!
It's all looking good down there - there are fish blowing and moving in most of the pegs and the water levels are looking just about right. The grass on the top bank is down to an almost manageable length and is being cut again soon, so we could have a lawn to walk on to compliment the new bridge.
I've already bought a big bottle of Tizer for the inauguration on Sunday 21st prior to the match, and I'll have a little word with Wrighty to get some canopes from Tesco (mates rates, 'cos every little helps...)
